Biography

Nelson Takkiruq was an artist based in Uqsuqtuuq (Gjoa Haven), NU, and was a talented carver who worked primarily in stone and whalebone. He is best known for the emotion, animation and abstraction of his sculptures. He was a respected community member and hunter, and was actively involved in the local arts community. His work has been shown in over forty exhibitions and he has pieces in the collection of the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, QC, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery in Winnipeg, MB, among others.View Long Biography and Citations
