Biography

Ning Ashoona is a carver from Kinngait. Her carvings feature Arctic wildlife and Inuit mythology. She comes from a long lineage of artists, including her great-grandmother, the painter and printmaker Pitseolak Ashoona who received the Order of Canada in 1977, and her great-uncle Kiugak Ashoona, a carver who received the Order of Canada in 2000. Her background in hunting, trapping, and fishing, informs her works which render loons, seals, mermaids and the sea goddess, Sedna with delicacy and precision.View Long Biography and Citations
