Biography

Victor Ekootak was an artist based in Ulukhaktok (Holman), NT. In the early 1960s, Ekootak and his wife Nerenoak were spending time in and around Ulukhaktok and in 1962 they settled in the community. In 1961, Ekootak co-founded the Holman Eskimo Co-operative and was one of the first artists to produce drawings and prints in the early 1960s. In 1965, Ekootak, along with other artists in the Co-operative, developed the first annual Holman Print Collection of 30 limited edition prints. Along with Helen Kalvak, Jimmy Memorana, Harry Egotak and William Kagyut, the collective utilized various printmaking techniques to create the collection, which was well received. Twelve of Ekootak’s prints were showcased between 1965 and 1966, with many of Ekootak’s prints being displayed at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.View Long Biography and Citations
